LAS VEGAS — Vanderbilt’s Robyn Renslow is one of eight unbeaten bowlers remaining in the championship bracket of the 2016 Queens Tournament, which is being played at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.
The Brentwood, Calif., recent graduate polished off Hollyann Johansen, edged Shannon Pluhowsky by a 629-628 margin and topped Jenny Wegner on Tuesday and now plays Sin Li Jane Wednesday morning at 10 CDT. The matches are streamed on bowl.com.
Sophomore Kristin Quah also made match play and played five matches before losing twice and being eliminated. Among Quah’s victims was former Nebraska All-American Cassandra Leuthold.
Josie Earnest, Vandy’s assistant coach slid into the math play by the scan test of margins and as the No. 64 seed, drew the tournament’s No. 1 qualifier, Birgit Poppler. The talented German was no doubt wondering where her first-round pushover was as the match came down to the 10th frame of the last game before advancing, 641-626. Josie then played Hall of Famer Carolyn Dorin Ballard and was ousted in the double-elimination event.
