Quick Slant: SEC quiz

Sept. 2, 2010

Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.

  • Today’s Question and Quiz: How competitive within the Southeastern Conference is Vanderbilt in the major sports of football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball over the last two years (08-09 and 09-10)?

Taking each of those four sports, give one point for each program that qualified for the NCAA Tournament during that year or appeared in a football bowl game. It would thus be possible for each school to earn four points per year, eight over the two years. Where would Vanderbilt rank? (answer at bottom)

  • Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Marina Alex of our women’s golf team will be introduced during the first quarter of Saturday’s Northwestern game.
  • How important is the Hall of Fame Weekend? One new inductee, Shan Foster, is flying in from Belgium to attend in person!
