Quick Slant: Hendrix Room works OT

Aug. 18, 2011

Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.

magicnoori.jpgThe football team is not the only bunch that gets a big workout during pre-season camp. Magic Noori’s training table staff has been pulling long days in order to prepare four big meals and in-between snacks for up to 190 players, coaches and staff and various invited guests. (Some days the total number served over four meals exceeds 700!) Magic’s early shift reports well before dawn to be ready for the 6:30 breakfast rush and the late shift closes down about 11 p.m.

Would you like to watch big-time college golf up close? Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Invitational is seeking volunteers for the big men’s and women’s tournaments Sept. 23-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

Helpers are needed for walking scorers, live scoring, hospitality, and shuttle drivers. These are enjoyable assignments. Take this opportunity to see some great golf, grab a free lunch and get a free Vanderbilt golf shirt. To sign up, contact Lisa Webb at 615-343-6494 or lisa.r.webb.1@vanderbilt.edu. You may also sing-up online by clicking here.

Vanderbilt hosts the NCAA Women’s Championship next May and many teams entered in the Mason Rudolph are using it as a preview for next spring.

Single game tickets for all home football games are on sale. Those Elon single game tickets are just $12! Gather your friends and neighbors to check out the new and improved Vandyville, enjoy the game and the post-game fireworks.

Speaking of football, there are still parking spots available in the surface lots near Vandyville. For as little at $150, fans can join the National Commodore Club and get free football parking and other NCC benefits for the year. Call the NCC at 615-322-4114 for details.

A Quick reminder… the National Commodore Club is hosting a new pregame hospitality area before four home games this fall. The area, conveniently located between Gate 2 and the Starwalk, will have two high-definition televisions following other football action from around the country and will serve as a great meeting place for NCC members. Admission to the tent is $15 per person for NCC members and their immediate families and includes a food buffet and unlimited soft drinks and beer. This is ideal for Commodore fans that do not have the time to set up their own tailgates and for those fans visiting from out of town. Please RSVP by the Wednesday of the game week to Kendal Duncan at kendal.duncan@vanderbilt.edu.
