Quick Slant: Fan forum feedback

Aug. 4, 2011

Quick SlantQuick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.

Last winter Quick Slant mentioned a committee of fans that assembled with many members of the Vanderbilt Athletic Administration to discuss “Changing the Culture” ideas and offer feedback. That group re-convened last week and given a progress report and another opportunity to provide valuable feedback on how they perceive we are progressing. Last week’s vucommodores.com series detailed most of the initiatives.

Commodore fans find our Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner is one of the best nights of the year. It is good for the Black and Gold soul to listen to each inductee give their acceptance speech. Some are inspiring, some passionate, a few are emotional and all are interesting. This year’s dinner is Friday, Sept. 2 on the eve of our football opener in the beautiful Student Life Center. Check this link for the Class of 2011 members and call Diane at 615-343-1107 if you are interested in purchasing a table for this special event.

For you golfers out there, have you heard that Vanderbilt is hosting the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship this spring at the Vanderbilt Legends Club? The actual tournament is May 22-25 with practice rounds Sunday and Monday. You will hear much more about this marquee event in the months to come.

We hope to see many of you at Sunday afternoon’s annual Dore Jam. Come out between 4 and 6 p.m. to meet James Franklin and his team on the practice field just south of McGugin Center. It’s free and fun!
