NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team is ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division I south region preseason poll, which was announced in a release by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in New Orleans on Monday.
“This is a nice recognition for the women,” Vanderbilt cross country coach Steven Keith said. “They worked very hard and ran well at the end of the season last year and this ranking reflects that effort. There’s a lot of time between preseason and the SEC/NCAA Region meets but if we stay healthy and focused I believe that the women can live up to these expectations.”
The Commodores open the 2010 season at the Belmont-Vanderbilt Opener Friday, Sept. 3 at Percy Warner Park.
Florida State claimed the top spot in the preseason poll, followed by Florida at second. Georgia and Auburn round out the top five while three other SEC schools, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi State are also ranked in the top 15.
