NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf is set to put together months of practice and competition this week at the SEC Championships. The Commodores travel to Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla., to take part in the annual conference gauntlet.
“We are really excited to have the chance to compete for an SEC Championship this week,” said head coach Greg Allen. “Now is the time we let all the hard work pay off. The early morning workouts and finishing practices in the dark are for moments like this. Each one of the young ladies have had bright moments this year and we have played well at times, but I think we’re all ready for all five of them to play great golf at the same time.”
Vanderbilt, twice SEC Champions in 2004 and 2014, finished 10th place in the 2024 event. The 21st-ranked Dores look to return to the match-play portion of the tournament and to take their first SEC title in over a decade.
“We’ve talked a lot this week about taking care of the little things, staying focused and finding a way to make bogey at worst,” said Allen. “That’s what ultimately kept us from advancing to match play last year. If we can do those things, this team is talented enough to make a serious run by the end of the week.”
Playing at 6,254 yards this week, Pelican Golf Club is par 70 and has played host to many collegiate and professional events, notably the annual “The ANNIKA at Pelican” and the seventh edition of “The Match” in 2022 with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods teaming up against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
Vanderbilt’s lineup consists of Lynn Lim, Ava Merrill, Sara Im, Tillie Claggett and Angelina Tolentino. Claire Henson will compete as the alternate.
The field is once again full of ranked competitors with 10 SEC schools ranked in the top 25. No. 2-ranked Arkansas leads the charge followed by No. 4 South Carolina, No. 6 Texas, No. 11 LSU, No. 14 Aurburn, No. 16 Texas A&M, No. 18 Ole Miss, No. 20 Mississippi State, No. 21 Vanderbilt and No. 24 Florida rounding out the ranked squads. In 2024, Mississippi State defeated Texas A&M in match play 3-2 to take the title.
Vanderbilt will take the tee at 8:50 a.m. ET/7:50 a.m. CT in Monday’s first round. Live scoring for the event can be found on Golfstat.
