Vanderbilt Head Coach: Melanie Balcomb
On tempo of game
“We wanted the game to be in spurts. We watched film from last year and we played a half court game with them and we didn’t want to do that. I don’t think we were consistent enough. We really need to work on coming out of halftime and being as intense as when we finished the half.”
On turnovers
“Well we had nine turnovers at halftime and we finished with twenty-three. Since it’s really early and we are playing with so many lineups and combinations, turnovers are going to happen, especially in a game that was played in the open court. We made a lot of turnovers in transition and I think we need to make better decisions in transition.”
On defensive effort
“I think our ability to get out on shooters and dictate more and pressure the ball is what we did tonight, and I think we did a great job at it. We need to communicate more but that will get better. We’re small and we know that we have to be real aggressive on the perimeter.”
On Jence’s play
“She’s just playing both ends of the floor extremely well. She’s in great position to challenge shots. She’s just very smart right now and she is making good decisions on offense. I am very pleased with her game. As Jence’s getting better, we’re getting better.”
On Jordan’s play
“I like her rebounding, I like her hustle. She’s not playing everything perfect, but she’s playing everything hard. She’s given us great energy and that’s why we’ve been starting her. We need that energy to start games and start halves. I like her energy and effort right now.”
