On the defense in tonight’s game…
“I was subbing early just for defense. I was trying to stress to the players that we didn’t want to exchange baskets the way we started the game. Our goal was to pressure them, trap them, force them into turnovers and get offense off our turnovers and that’s what we did. It just didn’t happen where I wanted it to at the beginning of the game. We gave up too many quick looks. Inside, I thought Liz (Sherwood) was a big presence. In the paint they kept driving and going in and getting their shots blocked. Then they stopped driving and that made our defense easier.”
On defending Crystal Kelly…
“Crystal got a double-double, but we did hold her down. Our game plan was to get her in foul trouble, which we did up there last year. We wanted to take it at her. That’s why we ran so much high-low and tried to get the ball inside against her and get easy looks because she’s not going to want to get in foul trouble. We did get her in foul trouble, which was our plan. We did try to not send her to the free throw line and she only shot seven free throws and she usually shoots almost 14 a game. I think we held her down. We obviously didn’t want her to get a career high and make the media guide. We thought she would get hers. She’s one of the best post players we play against every year. We wanted to contain her and not let her have 40 and do a good job on everyone else.”
On potential lineup changes…
“I don’t see anything permanent. We’re too young to be permanent. We’ve changed the lineup after every loss. We didn’t change this game because we were just totally flat. There wasn’t one person that beat someone else or was more productive to make us switch. We’ll probably switch the lineup a couple more times. We won’t know our rotation or roles until we get into conference play.”
