LAST GAME LEFTOVERS: GEORGE WASHINGTON
NCAA First Round – Sacramento, Calif.
Vanderbilt 77, George Washington 44
March 15, 2007

– Vanderbilt’s 33-point win over George Washington marked the largest margin of victory by a No. 6 seed over a No. 11 seed since the NCAA Tournament expanded to as many as 64 teams in 1985. The previous high came at the 1991 NCAA Tournament when N.C. State defeated Southern Mississippi 114-85 on March 14th in College Park, Md.

– Prior to Thursday, Vanderbilt largest win at the NCAA Tournament came in 1993 when the No. 3 seed Commodores topped No. 14 seed Boise State, 92-72 in a West regional first round match-up in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 18.

– The 44 points scored by George Washington marked the fewest scored by a Vanderbilt opponent in the NCAA Tournament. The previous low was 58 netted by No. 11 seed Western Michigan in a 71-58 Vanderbilt win in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

– Vanderbilt limited George Washington to 27.1 percent shooting from the field (13-of-48). It was the lowest shooting percentage by a Commodore opponent at the NCAA Tournament. The previous low was 34.9 percent (22-of-63) by Western Michigan in 2004.

– Vanderbilt tied a school record for an NCAA Tournament game by making 12 3-pointers against the Colonials. The Commodores set a school record for an NCAA game with 34 3-point field goal attempts.

– Vanderbilt made 12 3-pointers against the Colonials on Thursday. It marked the 17th time the Commodores have made 10 or more 3-pointers this season.

– Thursday’s contest marked the 11th time this season Vanderbilt has handed out 20 or more assists in game this year. The Commodores dished out 22 against George Washington.

– Commodore reserve wing player George Drake helped spark Vanderbilt’s first-half run against George Washington with a pair of 3-pointers and a bucket in the paint to put the Dores ahead 15-5 at 13:29 in the first half. Drake had only one 3-pointer during SEC play. His two triples Thursday marked a career-high for the redshirt freshman. His eight points against the Colonials tied a career high (Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Dec. 19).

– Walk-on David Rodriguez has seen very little playing time in a Vanderbilt jersey since joining the team after the fall semester. In fact, the 6-2, 180-pound guard from Sarasota, Fla. had played only two minutes in one game without scoring a point entering Thursday. But Rodriguez saw action during the last two minutes of the George Washington game. He was fouled with 12 seconds left and made 1-of-2 free throw attempts to earn his way into the scoring column.

– Thursday’s game marked the 250th contest for Kevin Stallings (143-107) as head coach of the Commodores.
