Team Records and Series Notes:
– Vanderbilt improves to 22-4 and 7-4 in the Southeastern Conference, while Florida drops to 19-7 and 6-5 in league play.
– The win is the 1400th in the history of Vanderbilt basketball. The Commodores have an all-time record of 1400-999 (58.4 winning percentage).
– Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 61-54 and 39-12 in games played in Nashville. Vanderbilt has won two consecutive games against the Gators in Memorial Gym.
– With the win, Kevin Stallings improves his record at Vanderbilt to 166-112 and 289-175 overall.
– Vanderbilt is now 16-0 on the season at home and has won 29 of its last 30 games played in Memorial Gym.
– The Commodores return to action a week from today on Feb. 23 when they host the Georgia Bulldogs. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CST) and the game will be carried live on Raycom Sports (television) and the Vanderbilt/ISP Radio Network with Joe Fisher (play-by-play) and Tim Thompson (analyst).
Vanderbilt Team Notes:
– Key Run: Trailing 58-57 with 54.2 seconds, Vanderbilt scored the final four points, all on free throws. Alex Gordon gave the Commodores the lead for good with two from the charity stripe with 24 seconds remaining. Gordon would add two more free throws with 13.8 seconds remaining to push the score to 61-58.
– Key Stat: It took a while for the Commodores to get to the charity stripe but they took full advantage of the attempts they did get. Vanderbilt made 9 of 10 free throws in the game, with all the attempts coming in the final 2:36. On the season, Vanderbilt is 104-150 (69.3 percent) from the free-throw line in the final three minutes of regulation and overtime.
– Vanderbilt trailed at the half for the eighth time this season. The Commodores are now 4-4 when trailing at the game’s midway point.
– Both teams struggled shooting in today’s game. Vanderbilt shot 22-of-58 (37.9 percent) from the field while Florida shot 23-of-59 (39.0) percent.
– The Commodore defense limited Florida to only one three pointer in the game. Florida shot 1-of-15 (6.7 percent) from beyond the arc in the game.
– Vanderbilt outscored Florida in second-chance points 16-4.
Vanderbilt Individual Notes:
– Senior swingman Shan Foster led the Commodores in scoring with 19 points. Foster eclipsed the 1,800 point mark in his career today as he now has 1,812 in his Vanderbilt career. He is 70 points shy of overtaking Matt Freije for first on the Vanderbilt all-time scoring list. Foster also brought down six rebounds.
– Freshman center Andrew Ogilvy scored 12 points for Vanderbilt and added eight rebounds. Ogilvy also had a block shot, his 36th block of the season, which ties him for fourth on the Vanderbilt single-season block list with Julian Terrell. Ogilvy now has 448 points in his freshman season, which is second most by a freshman in Vanderbilt history. He is 60 points away from passing Mike Rhodes (1978) for first on that list.
– Senior guard Alex Gordon scored 12 points, including four crucial free throws at the end of the game. Gordon has been very proficient from the foul line in the final three minutes of a game as he is shooting 28-of-34 (82.4 percent) in the last three minutes of regulation and overtime.
– Freshman guard Keegan Bell tied for the team lead in assists with three. Bell now has 78 assists on the season, which ties him for sixth on Vanderbilt single season assist list for freshman.
