Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb:
On the game:
“I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know what team was out there. They controlled the tempo. We played well for six minutes, all of a sudden we had a lot of energy and then it got close again and we couldn’t make a shot again. Our timing was all off, we just didn’t have the effort or the energy today.”
On the energy surge in the second half:
“We got it off our defense. We started pressuring more, picking up the tempo. It created some offense and some easy baskets off that.”
On changes in strategy in the second half:
“There were no changes. There didn’t need to be any changes. We were supposed to be pressuring and having that intensity from the start. That was the game plan, it just didn’t get executed for a very long time, until six minutes left and I don’t know why. We were very flat.”
On the second half comeback:
“We started playing with energy and enthusiasm and attacking and got stop after stop. They were playing not to lose, that is a perfect situation. I don’t feel like we ran out of time, I just thought when it got close, we got tight again.”
