NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt lost a legend earlier this month when Perry Wallace, the SEC’s first black varsity basketball player, passed away on Dec. 1. He was 69.

To reflect on Wallace’s immense legacy on West End and beyond, the Commodore Insider Podcast caught up with Andrew Maraniss, author of “Strong Inside: Perry Wallace and the Collision of Race and Sports in the South.” Maraniss discusses his own interest in Wallace’s life and career, the process of writing a biography on Wallace, the reconciliation between Wallace and Vanderbilt and much more.
