Fasoula named to Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Fifth-year senior Mariella Fasoula was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list, announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Thursday.

Fasoula is one of 35 players included on the list of contenders for the National Player of the Year and one of just five student-athletes from the Southeastern Conference.

A native of Athens, Greece, Fasoula is second in the SEC with 57 made field goals this season and leads the Commodores with 16 points per game. The 6-foot-5 center also ranks in the top 10 in the SEC with three double-doubles, a 56.4 field goal percentage and 7.4 rebounds per game.

The 2019-20 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award winner will be presented at the 2020 NCAA Women’s Final Four in New Orleans along with the Tamika Catchings Award honoring the women’s freshman player of the year. The winner will also be honored at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on April 13.

Fasoula and the Commodores (5-3) take on Tennessee Tech at Memorial Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Thursday.
