NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s basketball sophomore Khamil Pierre was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week for games between Dec. 16-29.
It is the second-straight TSWA Player of the Week honor for Pierre, as she was also selected for the honor on Dec. 17. Over the three-game span, Pierre averaged 22.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.7 steals per game to help Vanderbilt go 3-0 over the final two weeks of the 2024 calendar year.
The Phoenix, Arizona, native collected two double-doubles in three contests as the Commodores take a 13-1 record into SEC play this week. Pierre has scored in double figures in 16-straight games, which is the seventh-longest streak for a Dore since 1999-00. Additionally, her double-digit scoring streak is the longest since Christina Foggie had 19 consecutive games with 10 or more points in 2013-14.
Pierre had 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and four steals in an 80-66 win at Dayton on Dec. 19. She followed that up with a 23-point, 10-rebound effort in the 103-68 victory over West Georgia on Dec. 21 to record her fourth-straight double-double. Pierre’s double-double streak came to an end on Dec. 29 with a 29-point, seven-rebound effort vs. Alabama A&M. The 29-point performance marks her ninth game with 20 or more points this season.
The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team opens SEC play Thursday, as the Commodores welcome Georgia to the Music City. Tipoff against the Lady Bulldogs is set for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
