SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –Vanderbilt women’s basketball sophomore Khamil Pierre was one of the 15 players named to the 2025 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year presented by MOLECULE Watch List.
Pierre paces the SEC and ranks ninth in NCAA Division I in steals with 71 this season. The 6-2 forward’s 3.1 steals per game is the 13th-highest average in the nation, while it ranks second in the SEC. The Phoenix, Arizona, native has collected three or more steals in 15 games this season. Pierre had a 10-game stretch from Nov. 17 to Dec. 29, where she collected three or more steals. She collected a personal-best eight steals during her 42-point, 18-rebound performance vs. Evansville on Dec. 14.
The forward’s efforts have helped Vanderbilt become one of the premier steals teams in the nation this season. The Commodores’ 12.4 steals per game ranks 13th nationally, an average that is second-best in the SEC.
Offensively, Pierre is putting up 21.2 points per game, which is ranked 12th-best in the nation this season, The forward is the only player in NCAA Division I this season to average over 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game.
No. 24/24 Vanderbilt returns to Memorial Gymnasium next Thursday as the Commodores welcome in Mississippi State. Tipoff against the Bulldogs is set for 8 p.m., and airs live on SEC Network.
