NASSAU, The Bahamas – No. 24/23 Vanderbilt men’s basketball led wire-to-wire for a 96-71 championship game rout of Saint Mary’s (Calif.) to claim the 2025 Battle 4 Atlantis.
Vanderbilt (8-0) set Battle 4 Atlantis records with its 96-point title performance and its 268 points over the three-game event. Graduate guard Duke Miles was named the tournament MVP after pouring in a championship record 25 points and a tournament record 73 for the week. Miles claimed his second-consecutive Battle 4 Atlantis title after winning the 2024 crown with Oklahoma.
Sophomore Tyler Tanner and senior Jalen Washington were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Washington scored a career-high 19 points in the title bout, finishing 7-of-11 from the field while adding a pair of blocks. Tanner scored 13 points and added three assists and a pair of steals in the championship clash.
Tyler Nickel and Devin McGlockton each scored 11 points to give the Commodores five double-figure scorers.
Vanderbilt set the tone from the outset, using a 17-0 run in just under four minutes to stake a 34-13 advantage at the 8:24 mark of the opening half. The Dores never looked back and took a 51-34 lead over the Gaels (8-1) into the locker room. Vandy forced nine first half turnovers while outscoring Saint Mary’s 26-12 in the paint in the opening 20 minutes.
A 7-0 Gaels burst out of the half cut the deficit down to nine at 55-43, but Vandy had every answer it needed. A 7-0 run of the Dores’ own pushed the lead to 20 with just under six minutes to play. Vandy cruised down the stretch, holding the Gaels scoreless over the final 4:13 to capture the Atlantis crown.
Vanderbilt outscored Saint Mary’s 48-24 in the paint and 20-6 off turnovers. The Commodores also held a 34-30 edge on the glass along with a 17-7 margin in second chance points.
The 96 points are also the most Saint Mary’s has allowed in regulation over the 25-year tenure of coach Randy Bennett.
