Organ Named Vanderbilt Swimming Coach 9/8/2006 Vanderbilt University has named Jeremy Organ as the head coach to lead its new women’s swimming program, Vice Chancellor David Williams announced Friday. Organ comes to Vanderbilt after serving as head senior assistant/ head masters coach of the Nashville Aquatic Club (NAC), one of swimming’s most competitive club teams. At the NAC, Organ mentored six national championship qualifiers in addition to assisting 20 swimmers earn Division I scholarships. Organ’s successful coaching career stemmed from his stellar collegiate performance at the University of North Dakota, where he became a six- time All-American. Organ also earned the North Central Conference Swimmer of the Year honors in 1995. Organ stayed with North Dakota following graduation to become Head Assistant Coach from 1996-2000. Organ earned consecutive Long Course Coach of the Year honors in 1998 and 1999 in addition to helping establish the swimming strength and conditioning program, supervising student- athlete’s academic progress and implementing community service programs. “We are excited to begin our women’s swimming program and become a part of a very competitive Southeastern Conference sport,” Williams said in making the announcement. “In Jeremy Organ we have a seasoned swimming expert who has both swam and coached successfully. He has a record of developing young swimmers and he will be an asset as we begin in this demanding league.” Organ has extensive experience in overseeing the growth of several swim programs, including the Great Pensacola Aquatic Club, where he nearly doubled the senior swim program in just two years. During Organ’s time at the Nashville Aquatic Club, the program grew from 250 participants in 2002, to over 300 swimmers in 2005. “I’m excited to start our program up from the ground floor. It’s going to be a lot fun just to build something from scratch and Vanderbilt is already a great fit for swimmers. I’m very excited to build the program and watch us grow,” Organ says. The 2006 swim team will be the first Vanderbilt team since 1990, when the university was forced to drop the team due to inadequate facilities. The Commodores will make the nearby Centennial SportsPlex their new home with a schedule that begins this winter. |
