Six Commodores reach double figures in 116-42 win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Six Commodores scored in double figures as Vanderbilt women’s basketball won its exhibition over Palm Beach Atlantic, 116-42, on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

Senior LeaLea Carter and freshman Koi Love each had double-doubles for the Commodores. Carter’s double-double included 26 points and 11 rebounds on 10-of-16 shooting, while Love added 11 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in her first collegiate action.

That pair was joined in double figures by senior Chelsie Hall (12 points), redshirt senior Mariella Fasoula (18), and sophomores Brinae Alexander (10) and Jordyn Cambridge (10). Hall and Alexander added four assists apiece.

Vanderbilt jumped on top of its NCAA Division II opponent, 39-7 in the first quarter, forcing 10 turnovers in that span. The Commodores led 60-24 at the break and held a 90-32 lead after three quarters.

Junior Autumn Newby added nine points and seven rebounds on 4-of-4 shooting, while freshman Demi Washington tallied six points and seven rebounds, and freshman Yaubryon Chambers contributed seven points and six rebounds.

Behind Kyndall Golden’s two points and six rebounds, and Kiara Pearl’s four points, the Vanderbilt freshmen combined for 30 points.

Walk-on senior Sarah Gordon added a rebound in her season debut.

Also in its season debut, historic Memorial Gymnasium showed off its new LED lighting system with flashing introductions for the Commodores.
