Notebook: Commodores to Valparaiso

Nov. 6, 2014

The Event: Valparaiso University is hosting its annual Crusader Classic Friday through Sunday at the Inman’s Recreational Center in Valparaiso.

The Field: Alabama State, Arkansas State, Alma, Central Missouri, Elmhurst, McKendree, Monmouth, Nebraska, Prairie View, Sam Houston State, Tulane, Valparaiso, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Format: Friday’s six 5-game Baker matches begin at 10:00 a.m. (CT). Saturday’s five team games start at 9:30. There will be one additional qualifying team game played Sunday before the championship bracket play begins to complete a full round-robin of play. This game starts at 8:25 with the best four of seven Bakers, scheduled about 9:30.

VU’s Travel Party: The Commodores will continue to take the same nine: seniors Natalie Goodman, Rebeca Reguero, Nicole Mosesso, juniors Amanda Fry, Tori Ferris and Robyn Renslow, sophomores Olivia Wirtz and Giselle Poss and freshman Katie Stark will make the trip.

Last Time Out: The Commodores placed fourth at the New Jersey Jamboree, finishing with a 10-4 record. Robyn Renslow placed third in the big field with a 217 average over 11 team games.

History at Crusader: The `Dores were involved in three tight games decided in the last frame to finish fourth last year. VU beat Central Missouri, 4-3, then lost a double-overtime (two modified Baker playoffs) to Arkansas State before losing a quick rematch with CMU in the consolation game.

The Coach’s View: “Those of us who were at last weekend’s New Jersey Jamboree had a very quick turn-around and short few days of preparation,” John Williamson says. “This is another quality event with many good teams – a few that we will be seeing for the first time this fall. It will be a good tournament.”

Follow on Twitter: Updated results are on the Vanderbilt bowling Twitter and Facebook pages. It is anticipated that Vanderbilt games will also be live streamed on the same U-Stream page as last week.

Go Brittni Hamilton!: The ex-Vandy All-American continues to compete for the United States at the QubicaAMF World Cup in Wroclaw, Poland, which concludes Nov. 9. Hamilton was in second place with a 228 average after 10 games of qualifying, trailing Liza del Rosario of the Phillipines (228.7 after 15 games).
