BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The No. 17-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team puts its undefeated record on the line this Wednesday, as the Commodores head to Western Kentucky for a midweek, nonconference matchup. Tipoff against the Lady Toppers is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and streams live on ESPN+.

Starting Five
>> Vanderbilt heads into Wednesday’s game at Western Kentucky sporting a 3-0 record. It’s been a week since the Commodores played a game, as Vandy collected a 75-65 road win at Austin Peay last Wednesday.

>> The Commodores are seeking their fourth-straight 4-0 start to a season. It would be the first time in program history that Vanderbilt begins four consecutive seasons by winning its first four games.

>> Vanderbilt has won eight straight regular-season games against nonconference foes coming into Wednesday. Vandy has won each of its last five true road games dating back to last season. Wednesday’s game at Western Kentucky marks the first time Vanderbilt has played in back-to-back nonconference road games under head coach Shea Ralph.

>> Wednesday’s game marks the third time that Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky have faced off in the Ralph era. The Dores are 2-0 in those games, with the last one coming on Nov. 15, 2023, in Memorial Gym, where the Commodores posted a 77-74 victory. It will be the second time the Dores have traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky, under Ralph’s direction, as Vandy opened the 2022-23 season with an 82-71 win at WKU on Nov. 7, 2022.

>> Wednesday’s meeting will be the 37th overall meeting between the two schools. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series against Western Kentucky, 24-12. Vandy has won 10-straight games against WKU, a winning streak that dates back to the 2005-06 season. The Dores are 7-9 all-time in Bowling Green, though Vanderbilt has won each of its last four trips to E.A. Diddle Arena.

Game Coverage
Wednesday’s contest streams live on ESPN+ at 6:30 p.m. CT. Scott Thompson and John Butler will be on the call. Fans can listen to Jake Lyman locally on 94.9 The Fan and the Vanderbilt Commodores app outside of Nashville.

National Rankings
Vanderbilt came in at No. 17 in both the Associated Press top 25 and in the USA Today/WBCA coaches poll this week. Vandy’s No. 17 ranking in the AP poll marks the program’s highest placement in the AP top 25 since Week 15 of the 2013-14 campaign, when the Dores were ranked No. 16.

Nonconference Domination
Vanderbilt has had its fair share of success against non-SEC teams under head coach Shea Ralph. The Commodores are 52-19 against nonconference foes in the Ralph era, while Vanderbilt is 33-3 inside Memorial Gym against non-league teams. The Dores have won five-straight nonconference road games dating back to the 2024-25 season.

A Rare Nonconference Road Trip
Vanderbilt concludes its brief two-game road trip against nonconference teams this Wednesday at Western Kentucky. The last time the Dores played in back-to-back nonconference road games came during the 2017-18 campaign, when Vandy traveled to Central Michigan and Tulane in mid-November. The last time Vanderbilt won two consecutive nonconference road games came in 2013-14, when the Commodores were victorious at Hartford (65-56) on Dec. 15, 2013, and at James Madison (89-85, OT) on Dec. 18, 2013.

Washington’s Double-Double
Graduate Sacha Washington recorded a double-double in the win at Austin Peay, as the 6-2 forward scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. It is Washington’s 23rd career double-double at Vanderbilt, while it is her first since March 20, 2024, after she missed last season due to a medical condition.

Blakes’ Scoring Streak
Sophomore Mikayla Blakes is riding a 22-game double-digit scoring streak that dates back to last season, coming into Wednesday’s contest at Western Kentucky. The guard has scored 20-plus points 15 times during the streak, which includes a 26-point performance at Austin Peay in her last time out. Blakes has registered 10 or more points in 35 of the 36 career games she has played at Vanderbilt.

Scouting the Lady Toppers
Western Kentucky holds a 2-2 overall record. The Lady Toppers recently dropped a 65-60 decision to Indiana State at home this past Friday. WKU is in Year 8 under head coach Greg Collins, who is 126-92 overall at the school. Last season, Western Kentucky went 23-9 and held a NET of 107.

Sophomore Salma Khedr paces a pair of double-digit scorers for WKU, as the 6-1 guard is putting up 12.3 points per game. Khedr is shooting 50 percent from the floor (17-of-34). Senior Jeniffer Silva is putting up an even 12 points per game, while she leads the Lady Topper in rebounding at 6.0 boards per contest. The 6-4 center is shooting a team-best 61.8 percent from the floor.

The Lady Toppers are averaging 64.0 points per game, while giving up 62.3 points. Western Kentucky is shooting 40.4 percent from the floor and 24.6 percent from behind the arc. Defensively, WKU allows teams to shoot 34.4 percent from the field and 28.7 percent on 3-point field goals.
