The fifth-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team begins its spring season Monday at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. The two-day 54-hole event will take place at the Arizona National Golf Club with 36 holes being played on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The 15-team field includes seven of the top 10 squads listed in the latest Golfweek magazine college women’s golf poll, including No. 2 Arizona State, No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Pepperdine, No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Virginia and host No. 10 Arizona.
Vanderbilt’s Jacqui Concolino won the event last season as a freshman, firing a single-round low 66 in final round action to finish with a 9-under par 210. Currently ranked third in the Golfweek individual rankings, Concolino leads Vanderbilt with a 71.92 stroke average. Senior Chris Brady ranks 25th nationally and posted the Commodores’ second-best stroke average this fall at 72.25.
“We’re excited to get started,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards said. “We had a great fall season and hopefully can carry that over to the spring season. It should be a really strong field once again and we’ll have to come ready to play.”
The Commodores won their final two fall tournaments of the season, claiming the Lady Tar Heel Invitational on Oct. 8 and the Stanford Women’s Intercollegiate on Oct. 22.
