NASHVILLE – #14/16 Vanderbilt returns to the court less than 48 hours after an 80-60 loss at #6/7 Tennessee Thursday night in Knoxville when the Commodores take on LSU at Memorial Gym at noon CT in a game that will be televised regionally by Raycom Sports. Joe Fisher and Tim Thompson will have the call on the Vanderbilt/ISP Radio Network.
The Volunteers used a 16-3 run near the end of the first half to pull away from Vanderbilt and come away with the 80-60 victory, only the Commodores’ second loss of the 2007-08 campaign.
Vanderbilt, one of the nation’s top shooting teams, struggled from the floor in Knoxville Thursday night, posting their worse field goal and three-point field percentages of the season. The Commodores shot only 36.8% from the field (21-57), and only 14.3% from three (3-21) against the Volunteers. Sharp shooting Commodore senior Shan Foster, the SEC’s leading scorer, was only 1-of-11 from three and scored 14 points on the night, almost seven points under his season average. A.J. Ogilvy was the only other Vanderbilt player in double figures with 12 points.
The Commodores committed 22 turnovers against the Volunteers, and in SEC play, Vanderbilt averages 20.3 turnovers per game, and SEC opponents have outscored the Commodores, 77-50, in points off of turnovers.
The Commodores and Tigers will meet for the only time in the regular season Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series, 54-48, and the Commodores hold a 31-13 advantage in the series on their home court. Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings is 5-6 all-time against LSU.
LSU enters the game with a 7-10 overall record, 0-3 in the SEC, and have lost six consecutive games, dating back to December 22.
Marcus Thornton leads the Tigers in scoring at 18.2 points per game, while Anthony Randolph and Chris Johnson also average double-digits with 13.8 and 11.5 points per contest, respectively. Randolph leads LSU on the glass with 7.9 rebounds per game.
