Commodores fall to Central Michigan

NASHVILLE – Central Michigan used a big fourth quarter to top the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team, 66-57, Saturday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Breakdown
First Quarter: Vanderbilt 13, Central Michigan 11
-After a lot of back-and-forth in the opening exchanges, Vanderbilt put away six unanswered to take a 9-4 advantage.
-Central Michigan collected a layup and a triple to tie it up at 9-9.
-Fasoula broke the final tie with a layup with just :23 on the clock to put the Dores in front, 13-11.
-Fasoula was unstoppable, netting eight points in the first, while Newby pulled down five boards.
 
 
Second Quarter: Vanderbilt 30, Central Michigan 30
-The Chippewas rattled off two in a row to start the quarter and take a 15-13 lead.
-The squad exchanged points down the stretch and Bree Horrocks netted a jumper to set the half score 30-30.
 
Third Quarter: Vanderbilt 46, Central Michigan 42
-The Commodores came out of the locker room on an 8-0 run that started on a jumper from Carter and ended on a trey from Clemons-Green to take a 38-30 cushion.
-CMU answered with an 8-0 run of their own to tie it at 38-38.
-After being knotted at 40-40, Clemons-Green, Cierra Walker and Fasoula each collected points from the charity stripe to put VU ahead 44-40.
-Jumpers on both ends set the quarter score, 46-42.
 
Fourth Quarter: Central Michigan 66, Vanderbilt 57
-Central Michigan used a 16-2 run, powered by four three-pointers, to take their largest lead of the game, 60-52.
-The Chippewas out-rebounded the Dores in the quarter, 10-to-6, and took advantage of 10 second chance points compared to VU’s two.
 
Inside the Lane
-Fasoula collected her third consecutive 20+ point game, fueled by a 19-point first half.
-Bree Horrocks played in her first game of the season after missing the beginning due to blood clots. The senior collected four points and two rebounds.
-Senior Jackie Welch played in her first collegiate basketball game tonight after playing three seasons for the Vanderbilt women’s soccer team.
-Newby collected her first double-double since the opening game of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
-CMU out-rebounded the Commodores, 34-to-27.
-Vanderbilt out-shot the Chippewas, 45 percent compared to 43 percent.
-There were 17 lead changes in the contest.
 
Up Next
Vanderbilt heads to Florida to take part in the Florida Sunshine Classic. The Dores will take on Miami on Thursday followed by Creighton on Friday. Both games are set for 7 p.m.
