NASHVILLE, Tenn. β Wednesday was a memorable and historic moment for one of Vanderbilt’s finest.
Former basketball star Aaron Nesmith was selected by the Boston Celtics 14th overall in the first round of the NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound shooting guard was trending online after officially becoming part of the NBA.
Here is what they were saying after Nesmith, a Charleston, South Carolina native, heard his name called by NBA commissioner, Adam Silver:
Thought today would be a good day to make a twitter π. Its Draft Day!ππΎ

Aaron Nesmith had the choice of Harvard or Vanderbilt.
He told me that Vanderbilt filled the best of both worlds.
High level IQ
Leaned on former teammate Darius Garland when he had a foot injury.

Celtics drafting Aaron Nesmith, who is my best player available at this point of the draft for Boston. Nesmith is not just an off-ball sniper, but he plays with tremendous energy and has serious potential to attack and finish, as well as become a good help defender. Good pick.

Brad Stevens lets anyone shoot the 3. Now he finally has a lights-out shooter in Aaron Nesmith. Heβs gonna let it fly.

The best shooter in the draft is Boston bound!

Aaron Nesmith can drive a tractor, has built multiple chicken coops and dug multiple ponds, and his father made him cut trees for 12 hours a day, so he is perfect.

Aaron Nesmith is the best player in this draft when it comes to the most important skill in basketball. So, solid pick.
β Seth Davis (@SethDavisHoops) November 19, 2020
Aaron Nesmith arguably has the best jumper in the class. Total flamethrower. Nice pick for the Celtics, I’d bet on him carving out a rotation spot pretty early in his careerβunlike some of Boston’s developmental picks in recent drafts.

Yet another Vanderbilt player goes high in the draft. Basketball, football, especially baseball: Vandy isn’t just the greatest school in America, it’s a pro pipeline. Aaron Nesmith goes to the Celtics. Best shooter in the draft, 52% from three. Don’t snore on the ‘Dores.
β Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) November 19, 2020
The Celtics just got the best shooter in this draft. Aaron Nesmith shot 52.2 percent from 3-point range on 8.2 attempts per game for Vanderbilt last season.
