NCAA Women’s Golf Regional Begins Thursday 5/4/2005 Gainesville, Fla. – Vanderbilt joins 20 other women’s golf teams Thursday in the NCAA East Regional here on the University of Florida Golf Course. It marks the sixth consecutive year the Commodores have made the elite field. A year ago Vanderbilt won the NCAA Central Regional and ended up fifth at the NCAA Championships. A total of 324 participants have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championship final, held on May 17-20. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region. The NCAA final will be held at the Sunriver Resort on the Meadows Course in Sunriver, Ore., as Oregon State and Sunriver Resort will serve as hosts. This year, the 2005 NCAA Regional Women’s Golf Championship will feature seven of the top-25 teams in the nation in the latest GolfWeek ranking, including No. 1 Duke, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 8 Washington, No. 10 Ohio State, No. 11 Florida, No. 13 Tulane and No. 19 Furman. Other teams in the NCAA East Regional include Virginia, NC Wilmington, Miss. State, NC State, South Carolina, Miami, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Princeton, James Madison, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Campbell. Play begins Thursday at 7:30 a.m. with individuals, while the second half of the tournament is slated to tee-off at 11:50 a.m. Vanderbilt is paired Thursday with Miami (Ohio) and East Carolina. Helen-Rose Richards will be first off the tee at 11:50, followed every 10 minutes by Liebelei Lawrence, Julie Bartholomew, Kristen Svicarovich and Chris Brady at 12:30. The regional will conclude Saturday.
