Moore Beats Ducks at the Buzzer

11/30/2005

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Mario Moore hit a running three-pointer from 30
feet at the buzzer and Vanderbilt stunned Oregon 76-75 at Memorial Gym on
Wednesday night.

Derrick Byars scored 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and had seven
assists and Vanderbilt rallied from an 11-point second half deficit.

Moore scored 15 points, 13 in the second half. Julian Terrell had 12
points.

Aaron Brooks hit a driving layup with 3.3 seconds to play to give Oregon
a 75-73 lead, setting up Moore’s last-second heroics and a raucous
celebration.

Malik Hairson scored a career-high 25 points and had 10 rebounds for
Oregon (4-1), which played its first road game of the season. Brooks scored
15 and Bryce Taylor added 13.

Vanderbilt used a 17-5 run midway through the second half to eventually
take the lead at 60-58 on a Moore breakaway layup with 6:58 to play. From
there, it was back-and-forth until the buzzer. Vanderbilt shot 76 percent in
the second half.

Both teams entered the game 4-0, but Vanderbilt had already been tested
by a major conference foe. Oregon won its first four games by an average of
33 points, but none of its first four opponents were of major conference
caliber, while Vanderbilt entered the game coming off a 68-63 win at
Georgetown.

Vanderbilt extended its non-conference winning streak to 28 games and
moved to 5-0 for the fourth time in Kevin Stallings’ seven seasons as coach.

Vanderbilt is now 3-0 all-time at Memorial Gym vs. Oregon and holds a
4-2 lead all-time in the series.
