Miles Makes Jerry West Award Top 10

Veteran named among frontrunners for Shooting Guard of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball guard Duke Miles was named to the Jerry West Award Shooting Guard of the Year midseason top 10 list the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.

Miles is averaging 16.6 points, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals in 18 games played this season. He leads the SEC and ranks sixth nationally in steals per game.

The veteran notched a career high with 7 steals against Mississippi State and became the first Commodore to notch seven takeaways since 1998. He’s one of just six players in the country with seven steals against a high-major opponent. His 2.8 steals per game are the highest of any major conference player this season.

Miles has scored in double figures in 16-of-18 games this season, including seven 20-point outings. His 4.3 assists per contest and 2.8 steals per game both mark career highs.

The watch list will be narrowed to five finalists in mid-March. The award winner will be announced ahead of the Final Four in late March or early April, with presentation details to be announced at a later date.

Fan voting will begin on Friday, February 6th at www.hoophallawards.com. The leading vote-getter will receive one additional vote from the selection committee.
