Commodore junior tied for 12th at Augusta National Women’s Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga. –– Vanderbilt junior Ava Merrill is tied for 12th place through the first round at the annual Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Merrill carded four birdies on The Island nine of Champions Retreat Golf Course, including three-straight on holes No. 2-4. The Georgia native finished the day at 3-under par. She is four strokes behind leaders Maria Jose Marin and Soomin Oh and is tied for fourth place among American participants.

Freshman Elizabeth Rudisill is also competing at the AWNA this week. She opened the first round with a 77, sinking three birdies herself.

The top 30 and ties following Thursday’s second round will advance to Saturday’s final round at Augusta National.

Ava Merrill will tee off the second round with Group 9 on hole No. 1 at 7:46 a.m. CT. Elizabeth Rudisill will tee off with Group 10 on hole No. 10, also at 7:46 a.m. CT.
