NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sophomore Ava Merrill was named All-SEC second team on Friday as the conference office announced the annual SEC awards. Senior Meghan Meserole was tabbed to the SEC Community Service Team.
The second team selection is the second All-SEC recognition for Merrill in as many seasons after earned All-Freshman honors in her first season at Vanderbilt. Merrill led the Commodores this season with a 72.17 stroke average over 24 competitive rounds.
Merrill produced two top 10 finishes in her sophomore campaign and four top 20 performances. She finished fifth at the Tar Heel Invitational and 10th at The All at Old Waverly. 12 of Merrill’s 24 rounds came in at or under par.
Meserole was selected as Vanderbilt’s representative on the Community Service Team following her senior campaign. She is heavily involved in Vanderbilt athletics, having served as a leader on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She also led the team in volunteer and service hours.
Meserole is an incredibly hard worker both on the course and in the classroom, and is always leading by example for her teammates and those around her. She is a five-time Dean’s List honoree and two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient. Meserole is in the top five of all student-athletes at Vanderbilt for community service hours.
The Commodores return to action Monday at the NCAA Lexington Regional, looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for a fourth-straight season.
