The men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Louisville, Ky. for the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
The No. 26 women’s team will send a team of just five runners after sending 10 runners to last week’s Roy Griak Invitational. For the five Commodores running in Louisville on Saturday it will be their first race since the Commodore Classic on September 14. Seniors Kara Slavoski and Megan Yohe will be joined by Amira Joseph, Kat Delaney and Reagan Anderson. The men’s team will also be racing for the first time since the Commodore Classic with nine runners toeing the line in black and gold. Junior John Ewing leads the way with Sam Andrews, Matthew Cleveland, Andrew Bachman, Sam Reilly, Nick French, Jake Van Geffen, Andrew Fix and Dan Henderson running for the Dores.
“We’ve progressed nicely over the last three weeks since our Commodore Classic,” head coach Steve Keith said. “This is a great opportunity for both men and women to get some big meet experience. The women will run only 5, which is the minimum for a team score, so everyone is important. I’m looking forward to seeing how our younger runners will step up in a big race environment. The men are ready for a good race and look in much better shape than three weeks ago. John Ewing should take the lead of our group and if we can keep our time gap from 1-5 as close as possible they’ll see a very good result.”
Both races will be run at E.P “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville with the women running 5K and men 8K. The course is a flat, open course that can produce fast times.
“This will be a great opportunity for our women to put the past three weeks of work to the test,” assistant coach Rhonda Riley said. “This is a fast and flat course and will play to the strengths of our women’s squad.”
The women’s race is scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. CT and the men’s race at 9:45 a.m. CT.
