Men?s Soccer Slams Western Kentucky 4-0 10/19/2005 Nashville, Tenn. – Senior forward John Krause scored two goals to lead Vanderbilt to a 4-0 win over Western Kentucky in Missouri Valley soccer action Wednesday night at the VU Soccer Complex. The Commodores recorded their fifth shutout of the season to improve to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in MVC play. The Hilltoppers fell to 7-6-1 and 1-3-0 in conference action. “Any win in the Missouri Valley Conference is a good win,” said head coach Tim McClements. “We weren’t unbelievably sharp at the start of the game, but once we got into our flow it generated a lot of opportunities. The most important thing is to play hard for ninety minutes and play together. If they do that then they will cause people some problems.” The Commodores jumped on the board at the 10 minute mark when Tim Lonergan headed in his first goal of the season on a corner kick assist by Patrick Ryan. Krause then scored his 11th and 12th goals of the year at the 32:44 mark and 39:19 mark respectively. He tied his season total of last year and now has 24 tallies in his two seasons at Vanderbilt. Sophomore Josh Fallin scored his first goal of the year off of freshman Ben Hemkens? corner kick assist. Goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni recorded his fifth shutout of the season, tying him with Al Harper for No. 1 on the school?s all-time single season list. His seven career shutouts is also second to Harper?s 20 set from 1981-84. The five shutouts is also the most the team has recorded in Coach McClements four years at the school and it is the most since blanking six opponents in1994. The Commodores outshot WKU 17-12, with a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks. Vanderbilt will close out its regular season home campaign this Saturday against Drake at 7 p.m. 1 2 Totals SCORING SUMMARY |
