Men’s soccer scores, but falls to Creighton Vanderbilt 3, Creighton 1 Omaha, Neb. — The #8 Creighton Blue Jays defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores Friday night, 3-1, in cool, windy conditions in the new Morrison Stadium. Junior John Krause scored the lone goal for Vanderbilt to cut the Blue Jays lead to one, 2-1, at the 27:50 mark. The Commodores are now 6-6-1, 2-3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Creighton improves to 10-2-0, 4-1-0 in the MVC. The official dedication of Morrison Stadium was held prior to the game. Brian Biggerstaff scored Creighton’s first two goals giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. His shot from 25-yards out at the 5:31 mark deflected off a Commodore. Biggerstaff then scored on a scissor kick from a cross from four yards out just past VU goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni. Krause scored his 10th goal of the season from 20 yards at the top of the box that went off a diving Zac Gibbens who was in goal for the Blue Jays. Prior to that goal, the Blue Jays had outscored Vanderbilt 15-0 in games played in Nebraska. Julian Nash then extended Creighton’s lead to 3-1 when he took a pass from Biggerstaff from 19-yards out for a score two minutes into the second half. Creighton outshot Vanderbilt 23-15 with Schoeni totaling nine saves. Justin Moreland and Krause led VU with four shots, followed by Josh Medcalf with two. The Commodores play at Drake Sunday (Oct. 17) at noon. |
