The 2008-09 Vanderbilt basketball schedule features 17 regular season home games at Memorial Gym, to go along with six national television games, a first for the Commodore program. The non-conference slate includes a home game with Illinois on November 20 on FSN South, a game with South Florida at the Sommet Center in Nashville as a part of the Big East/SEC Challenge on December 16 that will air on ESPN2, and road matchups against Georgia Tech (Dec. 8) and Massachusetts (Jan. 3). The Georgia Tech game will be televised on FSN-South and the UMass contest will be televised CBS College Sports.
“This year’s schedule should be both exciting and challenging for our basketball program,” said Vanderbilt head basketball coach Kevin Stallings. “I am very pleased that our recent success has been reflected in the number of national television appearances we have received. Having five of our eight home SEC games on national television will provide another opportunity to showcase our great fans and the Memorial Gym atmosphere.”
Vanderbilt opens the regular season with a home game against Morehead State on November 16 as a part of the Cancun Challenge. The Commodores also take on Central Arkansas on November 26 as a part of the tournament, and then travel to Cancun to play Drake on November 29 and either New Mexico or VCU on November 30.
