View Southeastern Classic Results
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -With only half of the team running on the third Saturday in October, the Vanderbilt women’s cross country team raced strong, placing 10th out of 22 teams in the Southeastern Classic. Individually, the Commodores were led by Allison McMahon and Amanda Grosse.
McMahon finished the women’s 5k race in a time of 20:20.53, good for 32nd overall. McMahon’s time Saturday was her second best 5k time in 2007. She ran a 19:55.29 at the Commodore Classic.
Next in line for the Commodores was Grosse. She posted a 37th place finish with a time of 20:27.46. Her time today marked her best finish in any 5k event this season.
“I thought Amanda Grosse looked great today,” said Steve Keith. “I was very pleased with her performance. She’s worked especially hard the last several weeks with the rest of the team.”
Vanderbilt’s 10th place finish was only 35 points behind 5th place team finisher Shawnee State.
“I felt very good running today,” commented Grosse. “The team over the past several weeks ran very intense drills during practice to help get us prepared.”
Rounding out the top five for the Commodores were Sarah Scott, Sally Maier, and Julie Ann Fenstermaker. Scott finished 41st overall in 20:38.04. Maier was credited with a fourth place team finish (66th overall) with a time of 21:26.24. Fenstermaker’s 22:01.33 earned her an 87th place overall finish.
Lisa Davies of Shawnee State won the women’s Southeastern Classic race. Her time in the 5k was 18:31.35. Cedarville University won the team portion of the event, accumulating only 27 points.
The Vanderbilt women’s and men’s cross country teams will be back in action next Saturday at the SEC Championships in Lexington, Ky.
