Vanderbilt welcomes Nicholls State to Memorial Gymnasium Saturday for a 7 p.m. CT tip off. The Commodores are returning to action after a six-day layoff because of semester finals.

The Commodores have won four consecutive contests after topping then-No. 25 Georgia Tech, 73-64, in front of a national television audience on Saturday, Dec. 9. Shan Foster scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting and four 3-pointers to lead Vanderbilt. Fellow wing player Derrick Byars poured in 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting.

The two Commodores enter the weekend as the top scoring wing duo (31.9 ppg combined) in the Southeastern Conference. Foster (16.0 ppg) is tied for sixth in the league in scoring while Byars (15.9) is tied for eighth.

Nicholls State (1-11) won its first game of the season Monday at home against Xavier (La.) The Colonels dropped a 75-55 decision at Lipscomb on Thursday evening. Nicholls State has played a difficult non-conference schedule that has featured games against four Southeastern Conference teams as well as Texas and Washington.

Vanderbilt won the only game played in the series with Nicholls State, an 85-37 home decision on Dec. 15, 1996.

The Commodores leave Sunday for the San Juan Shootout, Dec. 19-21 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Vanderbilt plays host Puerto Rico Mayaguez on Tuesday at 9 a.m. CT. Other teams participating in the three-day tournament include Tennessee Tech, Northwestern, Utah Central Florida, Virginia and Appalachian State.
