Day Nine Photo Gallery
The Commodores spent their final day of their European Tour on the streets of Rome, doing some shopping for loved ones (and themselves!) and absorbing the city’s center and its sights. The day was really considered a free day with nothing on the agenda, and most of the players spent the morning and afternoon in the hotel, while most of the coaches and staff hit the town.
Some of the sights we took in included the Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the Spanish Steps, along with shops of all kinds – both inexpensive and high end.
The Piazza Navona
Now a shopping and restaurant area, the Piazza Navona used to host chariot races around its oval. And of course, you have the fountains.
The Pantheon
Rebuilt in 126 AD, the Pantheon is a circular structure built by the emperor Hadrian, and since the seventh century, it has been used as a Roman Catholic Church. Those in the know claim that the Pantheon is the most important architectural structure in Europe for its use of columns and a concrete dome roof, among other things. It’s an amazing building.
Spanish Steps
This famous meeting place is also the location of some of Rome’s best shopping options. From Versace to Louis Vuitton, you can find it near this location.
Rob the Tour Guide
As the tour nears its close, many of us took the time to have our photos taken with Rob the Tour Guide in the Piazza Navona. Here’s a pic of Coach Cason with Rob.
This will be the last blog of the trip. The team begins its return trip to Nashville at 11 a.m. Rome Time on a direct flight to Charlotte, and then arrives in Nashville around 6:30 p.m. Central time. For most of us, it has been a trip of a lifetime and one that we will never forget.
