FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After one round of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the Vanderbilt women’s golf team sits in 10th place after a first round total of 304 (+10).

All players had to fight through the breeze on the first day of competition as only three total competitors posted under-par scores.

Vanderbilt’s Kendall Martindale and Rene Sobolewski posted the Commodores’ top score of the day as they each recorded a three-over 75. Martindale and Sobolewski will be tied for 18th as they begin play tomorrow morning.

Irina Gabasa and Jenny Hahn both recorded a five-over 77, which is tied for 37th. Lauren Stratton rounds out the Vanderbilt team score as she finished the first day with a six-over 78 and a tie for 48th place.

“We made too many mistakes that you can’t make out there,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “It’s frustrating as a coach to see my team make the same mistakes we’ve made in the past from our experienced players. We just weren’t very smart with our shot selection.”

Morgan Ransom is tied for 69th on the individuals leaderboard after posting a nine-over 81.

Three golfers are tied at the top of the leaderboard with a one-under 71 after round one. Wake Forest’s Olafia Kristinsdottir, Virginia’s Briana Mao and Michigan State’s Caroline Powers will begin play on Saturday in a tie for the lead.

“There’s still a lot of golf to be played, and we’re only six shots from second,”Allen said. “We just need to play better and smarter tomorrow.”

In the team standings, Texas sits in first place after shooting a first round six-over 294.
