Second Round Results

Sophomore Kendall Martindale shot a three-over par, 73, in the second round of the SEC Championship in Birmingham, and is in fourth place on the overall individual leader board with a total of 148 (75-73). As a team, Vanderbilt is in seventh place with a score of 618 (309-309).

“The front nine is playing really hard, and we need to come out Sunday and play those holes better,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Kendall made two birdies early and got off to great start. She is playing really well and is really comfortable out there.

“We’re in a place where we have to play really well and hope the teams in front of us don’t,” continued Allen. “It’s a long golf course and it’s set up really hard. Again, we need to play the front nine better. We’ve got the back nine figured out. Now we just have to get through the front nine.”

The Commodores counted a 78 from freshman Jenny Hahn, and 79’s from the rest of the team – senior Lauren Stratton, junior Rene Sobolewski, and sophomore Irina Gabasa.

Alabama leads the tournament by 12 strokes over Mississippi State with a score of 597 (304-293), and the Crimson Tide’s Stephanie Meadow is the individual leader with a 144 (75-69), two strokes better than teammate Jennifer Kirby, who is in second place.

The final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday in Birmingham at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
