Marina Alex named SEC Co-Golfer of the Week

March 31, 2010

Vanderbilt sophomore Marina Alex earned her first SEC Golfer of the Week award after her second-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational last weekend, a field that included 15 teams ranked in the top 50. The announcement was made by the SEC office in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Alex earned her fourth second-place finish of the season and her sixth top five finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, and she has placed in the top 10 individually in all eight of the tournaments she has competed in this year.

Alex shared the award with Jennifer Kirby, a freshman at the University of Alabama. Kirby finished second at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.

The sophomore’s steady play has pushed her up the Golfweek individual rankings to number four in the country. For the season, she has a stroke average of 71.5 after 21 rounds of play.
