SUNSET, S.C. – Lynn Lim set the low-round record for Vanderbilt women’s golf at the first round of the Clemson Invitational on Friday. The senior fired a 9-under-par 63, besting the previous record of 64 shared by herself, Elizabeth Rudisill and Louise Yu. The Vanderbilt squad is in first place as a team at 13-under par.
“What a day for Lynn,” said head coach Greg Allen. “She made golf look easy today. What made her round even more special is the way her teammates reacted when they found out. It was really cool as a coach to see the love and joy they had for her.”
Lim’s produced the historic round with a clean card featuring nine birdies. The Gallatin, Tennessee, native has a one-stroke lead atop the individual leaderboard.
Ava Merrill added a 3-under-par round for the Commodores, holing five birdies to sit in seventh place individually. Sara Im, in 11th place individually, shot a 2-under-par 70. Elizabeth Rudisill carded a 73 and Angelina Tolentino a 75. Competing as an individual, Kathryn Ha also had a 75.
“Ava and Sara played really well and probably felt like they left a few out there, so I’m excited for them to get back out there tomorrow,” said Allen. “I saw a lot of good things from Rudy and AT, and I believe they will get it going the next two days.”
No. 15 Vanderbilt has a four-stroke lead over No. 4 Florida. No. 8 Arkansas is in third. The Commodores lead the event in birdies with 21 as well as par-4 average.
“There’s definitely a lot of golf left to be played over the weekend but today was a big confidence boost for this group,” said Allen. “I’m really encouraged by what I saw.”
Vanderbilt will tee off the second round with Arkansas, Florida and Ohio State at 9:10 a.m. CT on Saturday. Live scoring for the event can be found on SCOREBOARD.
