NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball guard Tyrin Lawrence was named a preseason All-SEC second team selection on Thursday. The preseason All-SEC teams are selected by a vote of the conference’s 14 head coaches.
Lawrence averaged 13.1 points per game in 2022-23, leading all returning Commodores. He also grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from three-point range. Lawrence was even better against ranked foes a season ago, averaging 15.9 points on 52.8 percent shooting.
In six postseason tilts across the SEC Tournament and NIT, Lawrence poured in 19.2 points per game while shooting 45.2 percent from three. He also pulled down 5.5 rebounds per postseason contest.
The veteran guard notched 24 games in double figures as a junior, including six games with 20 or more points. Lawrence was one of just five guards in the country last season to score 450 points and shoot over 50.0 percent from the field.
Lawrence and the Commodores tipoff the 2023-24 season on Tuesday, Nov. 7, against Presbyterian in Memorial Gymnasium. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will stream on SEC Network+.
