NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team welcomes in-state rival Tennessee for a Southeastern Conference battle on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Memorial Gymnasium. The game will be televised live by FoxSportsNet and is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.

Vanderbilt (13-4, 2-1 SEC) has won its last two league games, defeating Mississippi State at home and South Carolina on the road in the past week. Sophomore Liz Sherwood led four Commodores in double-figures scoring with 16.5 points per game in the two victories.

Junior Carla Thomas recently became only the 11th Commodore to reach 1,000 career points in her junior season. Thomas currently ranks 24th all-time in scoring at Vanderbilt.

The Commodores will be looking to put the first blemish on Tennessee’s undefeated record. The top-ranked Lady Vols moved to 17-0 with a 79-56 victory at Mississippi State on Sunday.

Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb, formerly the Head Coach at Xavier, pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history in 2001, when her Musketeer squad knocked off Tennessee, 80-65, in the Sweet Sixteen.

UT Head Coach Pat Summitt, in her 32nd season at Tennessee, brings her team to Nashville looking for her unprecedented 900th career victory. Summitt became the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history (men or women) during the 2005 NCAA Tournament, surpassing the legendary Dean Smith (North Carolina men) with a second round victory over Purdue.
