Kim Closes Strong

Vandy junior finishes opening round at U.S. Women's Open

HOUSTON, Texas — After a rough start Thursday morning, Auston Kim rebounded nicely and finished 3-over after her first round at the U.S. Women’s Open in Houston, Texas.

Kim started with a double-bogey on hole No. 1 and then bogeyed 2 and 4 on the Champion’s Club Jackrabbit course. But then the Vanderbilt junior recorded a par on eight straight holes before a birdie on No. 13.

Kim’s 75 after 18 holes has her tied for 89th going into the second day of competition.

A St. Augustine, Florida product, Kim earned an exemption into the event by being ranked as one of the top amateurs in the world. She competed in the 2019 event as well.

Kim is scheduled to tee off at 9:42 Friday on the Cypress Creek course.
