Kenny Schoeni Named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week

10/24/2005

Nashville, Tenn. – Senior goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Schoeni recorded back-to-back shutouts over Western Kentucky and Drake in conference play last week. The senior goalkeeper has been posted six shutouts this season, a single-season Vanderbilt record. His total of eight career shutouts is second on the school’s career list.

He had five saves against Western Kentucky and four against Drake, and has recorded three shutouts in the last four games. On the season, Schoeni has 51 saves and a 1.27 goals against average.

Schoeni is the third Commodore to receive a weekly honor from the conference in 2005 and the first to receive defensive plaudits. Forward John Krause and midfielder Joe Germanese got offensive player of the week honors earlier in the year.

Vanderbilt will be back in action for an MVC road battle this weekend at Eastern Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m.
