All-Americans Tony Kemp and Jessica Earnest were recently named Vanderbilt’s Athletes of the Year for the 2012-13 academic year.
Kemp was a consensus first-team All-America in leading the baseball team to Southeastern Conference and NCAA Regional championships.
Kemp led the SEC in batting average, on-base percentage, runs and stolen bases during the season and was a first-team All-SEC and All-Defensive selection. He was a two-time SEC all-academic honoree and was drafted and signed by the Houston Astros.
Earnest has been a mainstay with the powerful bowling program since her arrival on campus four years ago. She capped her career as a first-team All-American after three years earning second-team honors.
Earnest led a young Commodore team to the NCAA championship game with a 207.3 traditional game average and a 212 Baker game average. She is a former member of Junior Team USA and won a gold medal representing the United States last summer.
Vanderbilt Athletes of the Year are selected by the senior management team in consultation with the head coaches.
