John Williamson Named Bowling Coach

John Williamson has been named head women’s bowling coach at Vanderbilt University according to sport administrator Brian Reese. Bowling becomes Vanderbilt’s 16th varsity program, added to meet newly implemented NCAA Division I-A membership requirements.

Williamson, 27, had spent the last two years serving as Vanderbilt’s director of baseball operations on the staff of Coach Tim Corbin.

“We conducted an extensive search for our head coach,” Reese says. “In the end there were several things that distinguished John Williamson in our minds. John has been on the Vanderbilt staff with a very good program so we know a lot about his personality, his work ethic and the energy he will bring to this new program. Likewise, John knows the high standards that we have on this campus so we believe we have an excellent fit.”

Williamson, a native of Franklin, Tennessee, is enthusiastic about starting the program.

“I am looking forward to establishing a quality program,” Williamson says. “When you realize that nine Vanderbilt teams reached the NCAA Tournament last year there are many excellent models to follow. We will work hard to develop this program from the ground up in a quality manner that will be both successful and rewarding for the women who will compete.

“My immediate priorities will include putting together a roster from the student body and developing a competitive schedule for this year,” Williamson continues. “We appear to have a lot of interest on campus already and the collegiate bowling community has welcomed our addition.”
Williamson is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Nashville’s Franklin Road Academy.
