John Krause and Joe Germanese Earn Missouri Valley Conference Honors Krause Named to Second Team Vanderbilt’s John Krause and Joe Germanese received Missouri Valley Conference honors today. Krause was named to the MVC All-Conference Second Team, while Germanese was named Freshman of the Year while earning All-Freshman Team honors. Krause and Germanese are both in their first season with the Commodores. The two accounted for 43 of Vanderbilt’s 94 total points. Their 43 points are more than the team total last season (42). They helped lead the Commodores to their best start since 1998 and the Commodore’s seven wins are more than twice as many as the previous two seasons combined. Krause and Germanese also helped lead Vanderbilt to a six-game unbeaten streak, including five consecutive victories. That surge initially carried VU to a #10 Midwest Region ranking and then as high as #6 following victories over <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Evansville and Southwest Missouri. “I’m happy to see John and Joe receive the recognition they deserve,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim McClements said. “They have been a huge addition to our program and bring out the best in our team.” Krause, a junior transfer from Boston College, is a 6-0 forward from Holliston, Mass. (The Rivers School). He played in 17 games while starting in 16 and led the team with 27 points, including 12 goals and three assists. His 27 points rank seventh and his 12 goals rank fifth on the Vanderbilt Single Season List. He is the first Commodore since 1997 to break into the VU Single Season record book. He scored at least one point in 12 games, including eight consecutive games. He also totaled four game-winning goals and scored at least two points in 10 games with a season-high four vs. Northwestern. Krause scored the Commodore’s first ever goal at Creighton. He was named to the Vanderbilt PUMA Classic All-Tournament Team and the Davidson adidas Classic all-tournament team. He was named MVC Player of the Week Sept. 20 after scoring three goals, including a game-winner vs. nationally ranked Memphis, leading VU to an undefeated week. Germanese is a 5-10 forward from Ballwin, Mo. (St. Louis University School). He was second on the team in points with 16, including five goals and six assists. He also scored two game-winning goals. He started in every game except one which was the final game of the season when a senior, who was being honored on Senior Night, started in his place. He scored a goal and an assist in three games and never received a caution. He earned Vanderbilt PUMA Classic All-Tournament honors and was listed on the College Soccer News List of the Top 100 Freshman to keep an Eye On. Earlier this week, he was named to the Top Drawer Soccer All-Freshman Second Team. He is the second Commodore to win Conference Freshman of the Year honors, but the first in the MVC. Brian Hinkey was named Freshman of the Year in the Sun Belt Conference in 1996. Krause is the 10th Commodore to earn all-conference honors and the third named to the second team. |
