Senior Jennifer Hahn carded a five-under par, 67, and leads all individuals at the Clemson Invitational after the first round of play at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. As a team, Vanderbilt is in a tie for sixth with a one-over par, 289, and only trail leader Florida by five shots heading into the second round on Saturday.
Hahn posted six birdies in her round, including four on the back with no bogeys, in route to her 67, her lowest round of the season. The senior from Henderson, Nevada, leads Katie Sharp of Michigan State by one stroke.
The Commodores also counted an even-par 72 from sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth, and a pair of 75’s from junior Kate Sborov and freshman Courtney Zeng. Sophomore Cindy Ha carded a 78 in her opening round at Lake Keowee.
“Really great playing by Jenn today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “She looked solid yesterday during the practice round and it continued into today’s round. I may be as fired up about the back nine 35 by Cindy! She’s struggled her last couple tournaments and this was huge for her today. She’s stayed patient and positive through this and I hope this was her breakthrough.”
Florida has the overall lead with a four-under par, 284, but a group of eight teams are within five shots of the Gators, a group which includes the Commodores.
The second round continues Saturday.
