John Jenkins set a new U.S. World University Games record with six made threes to lead USA Basketball to a 102-53 win over Hungary in the team’s second game in Shenzhen, China. Jenkins scored 20 points in only 16 minutes of action.

Jenkins, who scored eight points in Team USA’s first win over Mexico, was 6-of-10 from three, bettering the previous USA World University Games record of five made 3-pointers that was previously established by Juan Dixon in 2001 in Beijing, China, and Matt Santangelo in 1999 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

The rising junior from Hendersonville, Tenn., is playing with a heavy heart – his grandfather passed away on August 9th while he was in China.

“That’s humungous, because I’ve kind of been going through a hard time this week,” Jenkins said when told of surpassing the single-game threes record. “My grandfather just passed away (Aug. 9). This whole thing has been kind of delirious for me. I don’t know what’s going on, I’m just playing games. It’s been hard for me because my family’s back at home. Just to hear that definitely means I’m doing something right out here and I feel blessed.

“Every moment of the game, I’m playing for him.”
