Vanderbilt guard John Jenkins was named the state of Tennessee’s college basketball player of the year by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association at their annual luncheon on Friday in Nashville.
Jenkins led the SEC in scoring, averaging 19.5 points and led the conference in 3-pointers made per game. Jenkins was a consensus all-SEC selection in 2010-11.
Jenkins heads to Colorado Springs, Colo., later this month to try out for the World University Games team. The 22 invitees will be trimmed to the final 12 on July 31. The final team will continue training until August 7 in Colorado Springs, with competition beginning in Shenzhen, China on August 13 and lasting until August 23.
